B - Complex
One popular type of multivitamin supplement is the B-Complex. The B-vitamins are particularly involved in energy production and the conversion of both carbohydrates and fat into energy. Hence B-Complex products are often sold on the basis of increased vitality and energy and as a boost to those people who suffer from tiredness.
Foods which are rich in B-vitamins include green vegetables and offal meats such as liver. Some of the first nutritional supplements to be popular in the 1950’s and 1960’s were tablets made from dried yeast, and these were sold largely on the basis of being a good source of B-vitamins, as a route to increased energy and vitality levels and lowered levels of tiredness.
Of the B-Complex supplements available today, many simply supply the RDA level of the B-complex group of vitamins and, as such, offer little which is additional to that provided by a good quality comprehensive multivitamin or multivitamin & mineral supplement.
Consequently, one of these products may be a better value and nutritional choice. On the other hand, some B-Complex products offer significantly greater than RDA levels of the B-vitamins and these may be a useful short term addition to a multivitamin for those individuals who believe they may have a low status of these vitamins, or are troubled by tiredness and believe lack of B-vitamins may help.
