Equazen
Increased intake of the Omega-3s EPA and DHA in children has been associated with improved brain function, expressed as improved learning, concentration and behaviour. The SP expert panel recommends a minimum of 150mg EPA / DHA to children of 6 months – 2 years and 450mg EPA / DHA to children of 2-12 years in order to achieve optimum benefits.
This product is a chewable, soft gel capsule which contains a pleasant citrus-flavoured liquid. Each two capsules provide 244mg EPA / DHA. As such, this product is unlikely to deliver the full spectrum of benefits associated with optimum intake of Omega-3 either in the short or longer term. Either additional supplementation or consumption of oily fish is advised to achieve adequate Omega-3 intake.
The product suggests taking six capsules daily for the first 12 weeks, which would provide a level of EPA / DHA above the recommended minimum, but compliance is likely to be low. The product provides 20mg GLA from Evening Primrose Oil, and so may provide some additional benefit.
The product is expensive, it is the same as the normal capsule, simply in a chewy form.
