Equazen
Increased intake of the Omega-3s EPA and DHA in children has been associated with improved brain function, expressed as improved learning, concentration and behaviour. The SP expert panel recommends a minimum of 150mg EPA / DHA to children of 6 months – 2 years and 450mg EPA / DHA to children of 2-12 years in order to achieve optimum benefits.
This product is a pleasant-tasting fish oil emulsion packaged in individual stick sachets. Each sachet provides 375mg EPA / DHA. As such, this product is unlikely to deliver the full spectrum of benefits associated with optimum intake of Omega-3 either in the short or longer term. Either additional supplementation or consumption of oily fish is advised to achieve adequate Omega-3 intake. This product advises a double intake for the first 12 weeks, which would provide above the minimum recommended dose of EPA / DHA, but guidance would suggest this level of supplementation should be continued.
Overall, the product is a good-tasting fish oil emulsion which contains adequate levels of EPA / DHA when consumed at a double dosage. However, the product is very expensive.
