Fibre is an essential component in our diets and has proven benefits in both digestive and heart health. The British Nutritional Foundation guideline recommends a daily intake of 24g, but the average intake in the UK is only about half of this. As such, there is a general requirement to increase fibre intake; some supplements offer a convenient means of achieving this. In the opinion of the SC expert panel, a supplement should provide a minimum of 5g per day to make a meaningful contribution to fibre intake.
This powder product combines soluble fibre with the sweetener Sucrolose. This means that each ¼ teaspoon provides 1g of fibre, but is as sweet as a teaspoon of sugar. The product is recommended as a sugar substitute to be used in hot drinks and sprinkled onto cereals and in cooking in the same way as sugar. As such at a usage rate of 5 x ¼ teaspoons per day this product is likely to deliver the range of benefits associated with increasing intake of fibre up to the daily guideline level of 24g.
This product would also be appropriate for those on a calorie controlled diet, or for diabetics as a healthy sugar substitute.
