Are vitamins safe?
16 April 2008

There are several articles in the news today which question the safety of vitamins and antioxidants.
But these findings actually demonstrate nothing new.   That said, it’s not about is it old or new, it’s about if it’s correct, or helpful. The Food Standards Authority recommend that we all eat five portions of fruit and vegetables each day to get the vitamins and minerals our bodies require, yet research suggests that only 58% of the population currently do so.

Clearly then, 4 out of 10 of the UK population may be lacking in the antioxidants and vitamins they need, so scare stories that tell people to avoid vitamin supplements aren’t helpful.

People who don’t eat their five a day are missing out on antioxidants and vitamins that are proven to help their bodies resist disease and so may benefit from supplementing their diet.

As with all health supplements, it’s important to get the right information as to what the vitamins can do and what doses are safe, from websites like supplementscompared.com and from your health practitioner.
